In an effort to better meet the needs of those who play Softball in the Huntsman World Senior Games, the Softball Committee has updated a few rules for the 2010 season.
"Our tournament has always been player-driven," said Kyle M Case, Games CEO. "It's part of what has made the event the largest senior softball tournament in the world. And these changes were player-driven."
"These changes will make the play more reflective the type of game the athletes want to play," added Merrill Barney, Games Director of Sports.
The rules changes are as follows:
1 – Flip/Flop Rule
The Flip/Flop Rule will be invoked ONLY IF at the beginning of the last inning, the run differential is ten (10) or more runs and BOTH managers agree to use it.
2 – Illegal Pitch Rule
An illegal pitch will be signaled AND verbally called at the point the pitch becomes illegal.
3 – Time Limits for Championship Games
There will be NO time limits for the final (Gold Medal / Silver Medal) championship games.
The Huntsman World Senior Games is the world's largest annual multi-sport event for athletes over 50 years of age. The Games offer 27 different sports including Soccer, Softball and Swimming.
