MEDIA RELEASE
The Huntsman World Senior Games was founded in 1987 by two successful business partners, Daisy and John H. Morgan, Jr. Once owners of the Hilton Hotel, in St. George, Utah, John and Daisy were also avid athletes and envisioned an international sports event in which men and women ages 50 and better could compete. Both agreed that the golden years are better when good health and physical fitness become a way of life, not just a once-in-a-while hobby. And so, the international senior Olympic competition we know today as the Huntsman World Senior Games was born.

Jon M. Huntsman, Chairman of Huntsman Corporation, became the principal sponsor in 1989 after recognizing the two-fold benefit of the Games: lifetime fitness, and economic vitality. The entire Huntsman family has been a tremendous support for the Games, as well as faithful friends in the pursuit of health and wellbeing of people all over the world.

Participation has grown steadily since 1987, and although the name of the Games changed slightly over the years, the slogan remains the same: Peace, Health, and Friendship. John H. Morgan, founder of the Games, adds, with a smile, “and fun! Don't forget that!”

The dream of those early years has continued to inspire thousands of people to get off the couch, and get to the gym, pool, horseshoe pit, golf course, etc. With so many sports to choose from, anyone can take part in the Games, and take home a medal or two. No pre-qualifications are necessary, and all men and women can find something of interest, regardless of their age.

Many athletes have attended the Games every year since the beginning, but the most amazing thing is they share it with their friends. In fact, the great success of the Games is due to participant referral, when Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma, or Son and Daughter, go home sporting Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals enthusiastically relating their wonderful experiences from the Games!

What makes the Games so special? It is the athletes themselves, and their inspiring competition, the two wonderful Ceremonies, complimentary dinner tickets, shuttle service, health screenings, entertainment, awards socials, gifts, and camaraderie; it is the enthusiastic volunteers, and warm Dixie hospitality for which St. George is known.

How does a thriving and successful event like the Huntsman World Senior Games continue to grow each year until it hosts 10,000 athletes and their guests for two weeks in St. George? Registration fees are low, the scenery is breathtaking, and the weather in October is unbeatable!

Join us for the next Huntsman World Senior Games and make history with so many others who love life. You'll be glad you did!
